Materials

  • Leafy and vining plant samples or cards
  • Container and potting mix
  • Plant starts or seeds
  • Stable trellis
  • Soft plant ties
  • Water and labels

Safety first

Anchor the trellis and cover sharp edges. Keep supports out of pathways. Adults prepare ties and stabilize the container as needed.

Follow each student's IEP, health, feeding, allergy, behavior, and mobility plans.

Objectives by House

House 1

Students will visually or tactually explore leaf and vine forms and communicate a choice.

House 2

Students will sort one plant as leaf or vine and complete one supported planting action.

House 3

Students will follow visual steps to plant and guide a vine toward a support.

House 4 & 5

Students will compare growth habits and assemble a stable, labeled container with a care role.

Access supports

Communication Model five core words; accept speech, AAC, eye gaze, gestures, object choices, signs, and partner-assisted scanning.

Sensory Present one material at a time. Offer tools, gloves, observe-only, a scent-free choice, and a quiet break.

Motor Stabilize containers, pre-loosen parts, use adapted grips, and offer seated, standing, partner, or directing roles.

Learning Show the finished result, model first, use short visual steps, repeat, and record the least support needed.
